Key differences are seen under ultraviolet light.

Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) has created a new attribution to recognize China 1990 2 Yuan Notes that possess a particular distinct ultraviolet (UV) characteristic.

The newly discovered variety is on the top while the regular issue is on the bottom in all pictures.

This new variety features an extensive pattern of green UV ink on both sides that makes these notes easily distinguishable from the regular issue when examined under a UV ("black") light. Even without a UV light, the paper of these notes appears to be greener than the regular issue. Another interesting feature is a vertical line that can be seen from the two dots at the left until the seal. This same area is seen on the reverse of the note.

PMG has assigned a new catalog number of 885bf (or 885bf* for replacements) to this remarkable variety. This ‘f’ addition stands for fluorescence. No additional variety or special pedigree notations will be accepted for this variety. (The "King of Fluorescence" pedigree, the only additional notation that will be used with these notes, is used exclusively for submissions from a specific PMG Authorized Dealer.)

These and other varieties may be submitted to PMG for attribution under its Variety service for an additional fee of $5 per note. For notes already certified by PMG, a variety attribution may be added for this same $5 fee, which includes the cost of reholdering. Please note that recognition and attribution of varieties is solely at PMG's discretion.
